About Life Pieces To Masterpieces

Life Pieces To Masterpieces uses artistic expression and our Human Development System to develop character, unlock potential, and prepare African American boys and young men to transform their lives and community.

Who we are at Life Pieces to Masterpieces will always be, first and foremost, the remarkable boys and young men we serve. Life Pieces To Masterpieces is uniquely successful in bringing our Apprentices’ highest good and most authentic selves to the forefront through our intentional environment of love, security, and expression. Who we are lies in our commitment to our Human Development System and our expectation that all who touch our mission – apprentices, teachers, mentors, staff, volunteers, and community partners – will commit to their own journey of personal growth and character development. This has led to a powerful organizational culture and an exceptional team that embraces vulnerability, shared humanity, and commitment to social justice.

About The Artwork

“Patriot Games”
20”x16”- Acrylic on Canvas.  (Original Painting).    10.5″x13″ (Giclée Print)

Former San Francisco 49er NFL Quarterback turned civil rights activist, Colin Kaepernick, is portrayed as Justice kneeling for justice.  Kaepernick sparked controversy in 2016 when he knelt during the national anthem prior to his games. This bold move was a public protest against racial injustice and excessive police brutality in the US.

Since then, many players and teams followed suit by “taking the knee” during the national anthem. Colin Kaepernick ‘s movement has propelled him into the forefront as a leader in the fight for civil and equal rights in America, and around the globe.

About The Artist

Originally from West Sussex, England, Amber studied at the prestigious City and Guilds of London Art School. There, she completed a Fine Art Foundation course before receiving her BA in Fashion Promotion and Illustration, at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design.
In 1999 she moved to San Francisco, where she continues to work as an agent at Stars Model Management.
Amber’s artwork has appeared at a number of Marin Open Studios exhibitions, and had her first solo exhibition in December 2018. Her preferred media are pencil and charcoal on paper or acrylics on canvas. Influenced by old masters such as Caravaggio, David, and Rembrandt, with their use of strong contrasts between light and dark, or “chiaroscuro”; a technique Amber adopts in her own paintings, particularly in portraits. However, she is currently embarking on the exploration and experimentation of modernism, use of color, mixed media and sculpture.
